And further, it is an instrument, which produces data of diamonds and other minerals that is directly comparable with FLOW SORT X-ray diamond recovery machines setup criteria!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>X-ray fluorescence-based diamond recovery machines exploit the very fact that diamonds do emit light (fluoresce) at a specific energy spectrum (typically at 450nm) when excited by suitable X-ray radiation.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The amount of light emitted (magnitude of fluorescence) by a diamond depends on many factors such as :<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Size<\/li><li>Impurities<\/li><li>Colour<\/li><li>Crystal structure<\/li><li>Temperature<\/li><li>The \u201ctype\u201d of diamond ( type \u201c2B\u201d diamonds are for instance known to have \u201clow-fluorescence\u201d properties )<\/li><li>X-ray exposure time<\/li><li>X-ray radiation spectrum<\/li><li>X-ray radiation intensity<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>It is well known that many minerals other than diamonds also possess fluorescent properties when exposed to X-ray radiation.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Some of these minerals emit light of a similar energy spectrum as a diamond, whereas many of these minerals emit light of a different <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-38930b0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"38930b0\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-2a2d667\" data-id=\"2a2d667\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2635dd6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2635dd6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>wavelength thus making it possible to distinguish them from diamonds by means of optical filtering.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The magnitude of fluorescence of such \u2018interference\u2019 minerals is determined by much the same criteria as listed for diamonds above.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>There are concentrates that are ideally suitable for X-ray-based diamond recovery machines i.e. the material to be sorted contains only \u201cwell-fluorescent\u201d diamonds and it contains no other fluorescent (interference) minerals!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>On the other end of the scale, the material to be sorted contains \u201clow-fluorescent\u201d diamonds as well as a high percentage of other fluorescent (interference) minerals. (In the worst case such \u2018interference\u2019 minerals fluoresce at a similar wavelength as a diamond!)<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>However such extreme cases are seldom found in practice. In reality, diamond concentrate characteristics lie somewhere in-between.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Diamond concentrates properties however do also often vary a lot even if they originate from the same area.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>To achieve a good and consistent diamond recovery with an X-ray-based sorter it is important to recognize and understand the properties of the concentrate to be sorted and to set up an X-ray diamond recovery machine accordingly.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Optimizing such a sorter setup requires experience and a solid understanding of X-ray diamond recovery principles.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The operator often blames poor diamond recovery on a \u2018faulty sorting machine or claims that the diamond that was not recovered by an X-ray sorter is not fluorescing! (the latter being very rare indeed)<\/p><p>A typical cause of poor diamond recovery is that the operator reduces the sensitivity of the sorter optic system so that the machine does not eject \u2018too much\u2019 material as otherwise there is too much material for hand sorting!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>What he has achieved is that by lowering the sorters optics sensitivity many of the \u2018interference\u2019 minerals are no longer being ejected to concentrate but at the same time the weaker fluorescent diamonds are also no longer recovered!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>With the help of an In reality, diamond concentrate characteristics lie somewhere in-between.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Diamond concentrates properties however do also often vary a lot even if they originate from the same area.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>To achieve a good and consistent diamond recovery with an X-ray-based sorter it is important to recognize and understand the properties of the concentrate to be sorted and to set up an X-ray diamond recovery machine accordingly.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Optimizing such a sorter setup requires experience and a solid understanding of X-ray diamond recovery principles.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The operator often blames poor diamond recovery on a \u2018faulty sorting machine or claims that the diamond that was not recovered by an X-ray sorter is not fluorescing!
